Los Angeles trip following the movie 'La La Land'

One of the indispensable elements of the movie La La Land is the attractions of LA. I went on dates all over the city, and thanks to the fantastic and romantic atmosphere that the places show, people started to visit. In this post, I would like to introduce four places that played an important role in La La Land.

The List of LA trip spot

La La Land

Released in 2016 'La La Land' is a film depicting couples searching for dreams and love against the backdrop of romantic Los Angeles.

The film explores themes of love, ambition, and the pursuit of dreams, while also delving into the sacrifices and challenges that come with chasing one's passions. "La La Land" received widespread critical acclaim for its captivating storytelling, engaging performances, and stunning visuals. It won six Academy Awards, including Best Director for Damien Chazelle, and was nominated for a total of 14 Oscars, tying the record for the most nominations ever received by a single film. "La La Land" has become a beloved and enduring film, captivating audiences with its blend of romance, music, and nostalgia.

1. Griffith Observatory

The Griffith Observatory is an iconic landmark and a popular tourist destination located in Los Angeles, California, United States. Situated on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, it offers panoramic views of the city skyline, the Hollywood Sign, and the Pacific Ocean.

The Griffith Observatory plays a significant role in the movie "La La Land." In the film, the observatory is depicted as a romantic and magical location where the lead characters, Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), share a pivotal moment in their relationship.

Established in 1935, the observatory has appeared as a backdrop for various movies such as 'Rebel Without a Cause', 'Terminator', and 'Transformers' in addition to 'La La Land'.

Admission to the Griffith Observatory is free, and parking is separate. You can visit the museum or astronomical show with a paid ticket. The parking lot is very crowded in the middle of the day, so it is better to use public transportation. If you go up to the roof of the observatory, you can see the constellations through a telescope. Upon entering, there are astronomical telescopes and solar telescopes. The astronomical observatory, located on a hill, is also a great place to see the panoramic view of Los Angeles. Fantastic views from Mount Hollywood to the Pacific Ocean and downtown Los Angeles are captured at a glance . Take note of the Hollywood sign that symbolizes Los Angeles.

2. Angels Flight

Angels Flight is a historic landmark in Los Angeles, California, known for being the world's shortest railway. It is a funicular railway that transports passengers up and down a steep incline between Hill Street and Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Angels Flight has been an iconic part of the city's history and culture for over a century.

Angels Flight has become a popular tourist attraction and a nostalgic symbol of Los Angeles' past. It has been featured in numerous films, TV shows, and literature, showcasing its historical and cultural significance. The railway has also been designated as a California Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Angels Flight is depicted in the movie "La La Land" as a nostalgic and romantic location. In the film, the characters Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) ride Angels Flight during a date, adding to the film's whimsical and nostalgic atmosphere.

In "La La Land," Angels Flight is shown as a symbolic location that represents the characters' dreams and aspirations. The funicular railway is portrayed as a charming and historic landmark that captures the magic of old Hollywood, emphasizing its significance as a cultural icon in Los Angeles.

3. Cathy's Corner

When it comes to the best scene in 'La La Land', many people will think of the tap dance scene under the purple sky . The scene that appeared on the movie poster was filmed at Cassis Corner in Griffith Park. It is a place where you can see the dreamy sunset and the night view of Los Angeles, and many tourists visit together because it is close to the Griffith Observatory.

Cassis Corner is located in the middle of Mt Hollywood Dr, a road that crosses the Hollywood Mountains. It is practically in the middle of the road, so there is a high possibility that you will be disappointed if you visit after imagining a fantastic picture like a movie. But when the sun starts to set, the story changes. The sky dyed in purple and pink and the shining scenery of Los Angeles harmonize, exuding a beautiful mood . Even when filming the movie, it is said that the scene was shot in a short time of 30 minutes, aiming for the magic hour. It's a fleeting moment, but the memorable and beautiful scenery resembles the love between Sebastian and Mia in the movie. The two people who shared a beautiful youth eventually break up, but the moment that shines the most becomes an unforgettable memory.

Since Cassis Corner is not accessible by car, you must access it on foot or by bicycle. Many people come by hiking. When the sun goes down, it is difficult to find the way, so be careful. If you want to recreate the tap dance scene in the movie, it is better to visit in advance during the day and capture the moment the sunset sets.

4. Hermosa Beach Pier

Hermosa Beach Pier is a popular landmark located in Hermosa Beach, California, which is a coastal city in Los Angeles County. The pier is a prominent feature of the beach community and is known for its scenic views, recreational activities, and vibrant atmosphere.

The Hermosa Beach Pier is a wooden pier that extends out into the Pacific Ocean and offers panoramic views of the surrounding coastline, including the sandy beaches and the ocean waves. The pier is a hub of activity, with locals and visitors alike enjoying various recreational activities such as walking, jogging, fishing, and people-watching.

When it comes to 'La La Land', you can't leave out the beautiful music. As much as it is a musical movie, colorful OSTs came out and entertained the ears of the audience. Among them, 'City of Stars' is a popular song with a simple melody and impressive lyrics. The scene where Sebastian sings while walking alone on the street at night captures the image of youth wavering between reality and ideals well. The scene was filmed at Hermosa Beach Pier, west of Los Angeles.

5. To wrap up

LA is a city with a lot to see. I captured the image of LA in various movies and books, but personally, I think La La Land was the movie that saved the atmosphere of the city the best. It would be nice to visit the places described above and feel the love and romance in the movie La La Land.
