Travel Porto, Portugal after Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

When you're done with Camino de Santiago, go to Porto.

Porto, the second largest city in Portugal.
It is also a place where many pilgrims who have completed the Camino de Santiago stop by for a rest.

These days, not only pilgrims but also many tourists visit. What kind of charm will there be so many people visiting?
The city was loved as a center of trade, but as the economy got tough, many residents did not thrive as before because they left for bigger cities.
Thanks to it, the city has a sense of dead time. Old houses, old tramps, and the atmosphere of the old city are calling many travelers.

What to see in Porto?

Clerigos church

It is the beginning of a journey to Porto and its representative architecture.
It is the first Baroque cathedral in Portugal built in the 18th century.
There is a bell tower right next door to Porto, and if you have time, be sure to go up and look at the view of Porto.

Lello bookstore

You can think of it as just a bookstore selling books, but if you look at the interior, you'll change your mind.
J.K. Rowling, author of Harry Potter has lived in Porto for about two years. Many people assume that she got a lot of inspiration from Porto when she wrote Harry Potter.
Maybe, you'll know as soon as you enter this bookstore.

Saint Benedict railway station

This station is a three-story building built in the style of architecture that was popular in the 19th century.
Many people visit especially because of the Azulejo that decorate the interior, which are splendid and magnificent.

It is impressive to see Portugal's main history of war, succession ceremony and transportation.

Ponte de Dom Luis I, Dom Luís Bridge

It's a nice railway bridge in the port city of Porto.
It is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage along with the Porto Historic District.
It is known that the Eiffel Tower in Paris was built with the bridge.
With a two-story structure, people and subways can go to the upper floors, and people and cars can pass through the lower floors.

The bridge, which is famous for its photos, is known as a place for taking beautiful pictures.
Across the bridge is Villa Nova de Gaia, where you can take a winery tour and take a cruise.

Riberia Square

It is an old square located in the heart of the Porto Historical District.
It is said that the trade of fish and other fish as a pier was an active commercial center early on.
Cafes and restaurants are lined up by the river. Thanks to this, it is a typical tourist attraction that attracts many people.

What to eat in Porto?

Wine

Port wine is wine made by mixing brandy before the glucose sugar turns into alcohol.
This leaves the sugar in the application much sweeter than ordinary wine.
If you visit the previously mentioned Villa Nova de Gaia, you will find a variety of portwine cellers. Many tourists visit the place to tour the wine and explore the history and taste of the port wine.

Francesinha

Let's define this food in a word, but it's a calorie bomb.
Think of it as a Portuguese sandwich.
Put beef, bacon, sausages, eggs, etc. in the sandwich and sprinkle the cheese on top.
You can just say that all kinds of meat you can think of goes into this sandwich.

As you already know, high-calorie foods can't be tasteless.
Because the food is greasy, it would be good to have it with beer.

Porto was a small city, but it had a lot to do.
When I visited this city, I applied for a free tour for travelers and wandered around with other travelers. I hope you can visit this city and take part in it.
