Hill of Crosses Lithuania Tour from Vilnius

Hill of Crosses Lithuania Tour from Vilnius

About Hill of Crosses Lithuania

It's one of the most visited places in Lithuania, except for Vilnius and Trakai, where I've already posted. This is a hill with many crosses on its feet.
To understand this hill, we must take a brief look at the history of this country. Lithuania, once ruled by Russia, fought several wars for independence. These wars cost many people, and began to set up crosses to honor them. Russia tried to tear down several times, but failed.
This hill is an important cultural heritage showing the religion, resistance and loyalty of Lithuanians.

Many travelers stop by when they travel to Lithuania and Latvia while traveling to the three Baltic countries.
I also stopped by while traveling to Vilnius and moving to Riga.
Before explaining how to get to the Hill from Vilnius, this post is a post for bus riders. You can go more comfortably if you use a rental car or a taxi.

From Vilnius!

There is no bus from Vilnius to Hill of Crosses, and you have to take a bus to Siauliai, which is located around the hill.
The bus naturally departs from the bus terminal.
If you have been to Trakai from Vilnius, it is good to know the bus schedule in advance when using the bus terminal to go to Trakai.

It's not hard to take a bus, but in Siauliai there's not much to see except this hill, so I usually travel on the day. So you'd better plan your time well in advance.

For your information, it takes about 4 hours to Siauliai in Vilnius.

There are two things to do when you arrive at the Siauliai bus terminal.

First, look at the bus schedule to Hill of Crosses. Visit the Tourist Information Center in the terminal and give you a bus schedule. You should receive this and check the time available to you.
You should also consider the time well because you have to go to the hill and come back.
If you don't have time, you can take a taxi.

Domantai from the above time table goes to the hill.

Second, leave your luggage to the luggage office.
If you're a public transportation traveler, you're sure to have a big carrier or backpack. Wouldn't it be inefficient to travel with that heavy bag? Fortunately, there is a place where you can leave your bags at the bus terminal, so be sure to use them.
A time check is mandatory before use.

In my case, I got on the bus at 7:30 a.m. from Vilnius and arrived at the Siauliai terminal at 11:30 a.m.
As you can see by looking at the bus schedule, there is no choice but to take a break as many buses do not go. Have lunch while waiting for the bus.

I started for the hill by bus. It's not far, so we can get there in about ten minutes.
If you have plenty of time, it seems like you have enough time to walk.
Anyway, there's no proper bus stop. The first traveler is apt to pass by. Since Lithuania doesn't have many travelers, it won't be easy to identify on your own.
You'd better take a bus and ask the residents or the bus driver to tell you when it's time to get off to Hill of Crosses.

If you walk slowly from the bus stop to the hill, you can get there in about half an hour.
I didn't see any other travelers on the bus, but there were many people who came on foot or visited by car.

Hill of Crosses
You can see a landscape you'll never see in your life here. Of course, a huge mountain or performance feels completely different. Maybe you think it's a smaller hill than you think.
However, seeing the crosses here, it seemed to me that the hearts of the Lithuanians had reached. They could feel a mind to honor someone, to think of their own country, and to think of their own family.

Nearby, there is room for small cafes and souvenirs. It's with a parking lot for people who come by car.
A variety of crosses can be bought as souvenirs just like the name of a hill.

What is the most important thing when you visit this hill?

There isn't much time given to you unless you plan to spend the day in Siauliai. So you have to plan your time really well.
I recommend that you check and visit every timetable until the time you arrive at the Siauliai terminal, bus time to the hills, bus time to come back, and time to spend on this hill, and finally time to leave Siauliai.

If you have a lot of time, there is a shopping center near the Siauliai terminal, so there are many places to spend time. It's good to travel a little too slower.

The cross surrounding this Hill, the broad fields and the wind flowing over it.
I can still feel myself standing there.

  1. This blog opened my eyes, considering how a tour rental can be so creative and worth money. I had my plans to take a tour of Europe but was worried about the travel options. But now, all my worries have gone to the dustbin, and I can easily get along with this blog and suggest all for the same too.
